BRONZE CARE The color of the surface of a bronze is called patina. The sculptor applies this color with chemical and heat. Patina is also a natural reaction of a bronze due to atmospheric conditions such as humidity and chemicals. To deter and protect the patina the artist or perhaps the foundry will add a coat of wax or lacquer.
Display your bronze sculpture in a location that will preserve it. Keep it away from excessive heat and humidity. Dust your sculpture with a soft cloth, if degreasing is necessary test a small area with mild soap and distilled water. Be sure to rinse thoroughly and air dry. Do not use abrasive polishes, brushes or chemicals which could scratch the metal surface. Bronze is extremely hardy, durable metal and will last for centuries!
