The price of any gemstone is generally determined by its color, clarity, cut and carats. Those are the 4 attributes of a gemstone that determines its quality. Its quality combined with supply and demand, determine its value.
To check the quality of any gemstone follow the checklist below.
- Has it been treated?
(Common treatments such as irradiation, heat, dye, and or coated.)
- Is the stone natural or synthetic?
- Are there any noticeable flaws, scratches or chips
- Is the color even throughout the stone?
- How good is the color? (Is it vivid?)
- If you are buying two or more of the same stone how well do they match?
