Tips on Buying Gemstones
The price of any gemstone is generally determined by its color, clarity, cut and carats. Those are the 4 attributes of a gemstone that determines its quality. Its quality combined with supply and demand, determine its value.

To check the quality of any gemstone follow the checklist below.

  1. Has it been treated?
(Common treatments such as irradiation, heat, dye, and or coated.)
  2. Is the stone natural or synthetic?
  3. Are there any noticeable flaws, scratches or chips
  4. Is the color even throughout the stone?
  5. How good is the color? (Is it vivid?)
  6. If you are buying two or more of the same stone how well do they match?

Now that you have a general idea of what to look for you should also familiarize yourself with common jewelry related terminology. So the next time your shopping for jewels you’ll sound like an expert.
